Hello, I am Larry Duran. I was born in El Paso, Texas and later migrated to Boyle Heights, California in the 1960’s where I fell in love with dogs. I grew up admiring breeders like the legendary Vera Storm. I had very humble beginnings where I started by cleaning kennels of local big time breeders. I was fascinated by the rich history of the American Pitbull Terrier, which is what lead me into the breed. By the 1970’s I began to travel to and enter dog shows where I began to get an understanding of registering and showing dogs. Back then we didn’t have social media, we depended on gazette magazines and post cards to network and create awesome dogs.
When the APBT’s we bred, began to display features unwanted by the UKC and AKC, our community formed and the American Bully was born. I knew the American Bully and its community needed a home and this is where the Original Bully Kennel Club™ was born. I founded The OBKC™ in 2003 and threw the first show in 2004. I later sold the registry to a young, determined breeder by the name of Rio Jones and the rest is history.
